Review: New Balance 1010v2

05 Dec Review: New Balance 1010v2

It’s been awhile, but I finally put my feet back into some New Balance goodness. The best part about the 1010v2 (http://runningshoes.com/mens-new-balance-1010-v2/blue-yellow) is that I LOVE THEM! Seriously, they have everything I want and need in a trail shoe and hit the mark on all accounts. They are light, flexibile, have an amazing toe box, a comfortable upper, some protection underneath, and just feel nimble and awesome.

The only negatives are that they could potentially wear out quicker than I want, they run a half size too big (size down before you buy!) and don’t give me all the comfort I need for ultra training long days. Also, this happened after shooting and is partially my fault, but I got two pretty bad achilles blisters from the heel cup sticking up too far. This was 85% caused by my socks sliding too far down the back of my ankle, but the reality is the ankle is just too high in the back. I just wear higher socks as normal and all is perfect.

LIKED:

  • Comfortable
  • Toe Box
  • Upper Materials
  • Outsole Design
  • Ground Feel
  • Flexibility
  • Light (8.5oz)

DISLIKED:

  • Sizing
  • Durability
  • Shorter Distances

QUALITY: 4/5
COMFORT: 4/5
PRICE: 4/5
LOOKS: 4/5

TOTAL: 16/20

(youtube’s not loading comments for me today, so maybe this question is already there???)

I have the New Balance MT101 from a few years ago and always loved them. I’m looking to get back into more trails. Are the 1010s an evolution from the old MT101s? What about the M110s or just the M10s? They’re all showing on the newbalance site and all listed as minimus in some fashion. New Balance seems to be blowing through their number system and I can’t keep up!

Also, did you wear/review the 1010v1s and how do they compare? I see lots of v1’s for a cheap $50 out there!

    Thanks.

Toe box smaller than original 1010. Treads now angled which I am not sure really helps anything. Original amazing shoe. Sizing change making this shoe not perfect anymore for me. Original 1010’s perfect except they ripped out toe box sides at 100 miles. Fixing the upper material was all New Balance had to do but over tweaking may have ruined this shoe for me. Trying a half size larger to try and make the v2 work.
