Ladies and gentlemen, the Mizuno Wave Hitogami (RunningShoes.com). It has been a number of years since I ran in a Mizuno shoe. I had real problems with the wave technology – the plastic layer in the heel – and couldn’t get past it when I would wear the shoe. However, many of you have asked me to review them so I thought, why the hell not, let’s try them again! And boy, I’m glad I did.
The Wave Hitogami is awesome. It’s a lightweight, low slinging race flat/race trainer that gives you enough cushion for longer runs, plenty of ground stability and a top-notch comfortable upper. While I still couldn’t look past the wave layer of plastic, the heel drop (9mm), the laces and the durability of the EVA, those are really my only problems with the shoe and can look past them to keep the shoe in my rotation.
I even pulled a PR in the Hitogami at the 2014 Vancouver First Half Marathon. While I’m sure it’s my mountain legs pushing me faster, I’d like to think the Hitogami had something to do with it. Let me know in the comments what you think of the Mizuno Hitogami or ANY Mizuno shoe you might be rocking.
