I was fortunate enough to be in Vancouver, BC this past week with Mile Long Legs and I had the opportunity to do a long 17 mile training run on the BMO Vancouver Marathon’s sanctioned course. I was stoked because it would allow me to face the dreaded hills (Burrard Street Bridge) and blustery winds (along The Stanley Park Seawall) head-on.
This being my first big marathon since the Seattle Rock N Roll in 2009, I’m obviously nervous as shit. But getting the chance to run a bit of the course will help ease my nerves come race day. I’ll already know the scenery, the elevation changes, and the places to poop-stop. This is a big hurdle, especially for a destination marathon. If it was a local marathon, I’d obviously have much more access to the course. If you get the opportunity during your training to put in some miles on the actual race course, DO IT. It can only help you to conquer that pre-race fear. Having the added mental edge will push you that much further and harder. Here’s a lil video I made on the go…
